Digital Cameras Introduction

We see them everywhere, digital cameras are now in cell phones, computers and of course are available in tiny, and yet powerful, pocket sizes as well as in traditional SLR formats. In the past decade alone digital photography has made some remarkable advancements and it is now available to almost any consumer anywhere.

Today’s digital cameras can be almost entirely pre-programmed and full of all kinds of “modes”, but there are also some that look exactly as standard 35mm cameras, including all of the manual settings and adjustments. Such cameras range from the remarkably professional to something now known as the “prosumer” models.

Before jumping into the ownership of a new digital camera it is a good idea to consider what it is going to be used for, who is going to be using it, and what is going to be asked of the camera. For instance, anyone hoping to have constant control over the shutter speed, ISO and aperture of their camera may not want to go with one of the point and shoot models and should instead investigate their options in the prosumer cameras. If, however, the camera is going to be used by someone without a great deal of interest in pursuing specialized photography, the point and shoot would be remarkably effective.

If still not clear about which cameras to look at, it is a good idea to determine what the manual settings can do for the photographer. For instance, a night time mode on a camera may not always capture the sort of images the owner is hoping to take, and this could be for a number of reasons, including the fact that shutter speed or ISO cannot be changed.

Simply understanding how these settings affect an image is the most important thing about using the new digital cameras. ISO translates to the amount of light allowed into the sensor, and increasing the ISO setting may make it easier to capture action shots without any blurring from motion, even in lower light situations, but it will have its “down side” as well. It is important for digital camera owners to understand that changes to ISO, and shutter speed, can cause a graininess called “noise” in an image. While they can be used to create a special effect, most people do not want “noise” in their photographs.

This often leads to the use of software to clean up or enhance digital photographs. There are many modern programs that have “noise reduction” filters that help to fix photographs that have suffered such effects. Purchasing a high-end digital SLR camera usually makes the purchase of compatible and affective computer software a necessity as well.

Best Digital Camera Advice

by Scott Goodman

For many people the whole idea of buying a digital camera is confusing with so many to choose from. For someone who is dedicated then they may spend quite some time researching consumer reports to find the best digital camera. Eventually saving enough money to buy that eye-popping, 10 megapixel, 10x optical zoom with up to a sixteen gigabyte expandable memory using super hi-speed SD memory card and of course, very compact; which we hope be the envy of almost everyone we know. By the time we actually go to the mall armed with our life savings, we pass by a new display with an all new model that has even more mega pixels, and larger expandable memory, with built it microphone and video playback with stereo sound and 22 scenic modes.

We sigh because the manufacturer of this amazing gadget claims that this is the best digital camera yet out in the market. But this dilemma is very short lived because you promised yourself the best digital camera and that is what you are going to have. Don’t worry though if you are not sure what to do; just follow the guide below and you shouldn’t go to far wrong. First off try and search out a model with a higher number of pixels, referred to megapixels; you ideally need over 5 although with today’s cameras it would be hard to find one under that anyway.

As digital photo printing costs have reduced over the last few years more and more people are taking advantage of this so the higher the number of pixels you have, the larger you can print your images. Superior color definition and the chance to print off larger than normal images are usually the main reasons for buying a model with high megapixel resolution. The advantage of larger LCD screens on the cameras means you have more control over the composition of the finished image and it is much easier to see the shots you have taken afterwards. The best digital cameras are able to touch up and edit the images this is an excellent feature to have as standard.

A quick tip on this subject involves the batteries which have a tendency to run out quicker if a large LCD screen is fitted and is used constantly; some sound advice is carry spares! More and more digital cameras are coming equipped with an optical zoom and this is the sort to try for even if it is only a three times power. However, the lower price range cameras rarely come with an optical zoom and where fitted, optical zooms range between 3x to 12x power. Images on these cameras are stored on small storage cards that can have a huge memory capacity but be sure to buy the right type.

There are different types of memory card: like the xD, SD, Compact Flash, Memory Stick being the main ones. As the large megapixel cameras use a large amount of memory then purchase the largest capacity card your camera can use within your budget. Whereas a few years ago a large storage card would be somewhere in the region of 128mb to 256mb, it is not uncommon to use cards with 4 gigabytes or more of storage now. After all is said and done, the best digital camera you choose should match your lifestyle as much as it should your pocket. If you enjoy taking shots with your new toy and use it regularly then that is all you can ask from a camera isn’t it?

Best Digital Camera Review

by John Q. Harris

Digital camera reviews are abundant not just online but also in the newspapers, magazines and even TV shows. There is nothing worse than finding a claimed expert digital camera reviewer that cannot find a single thing wrong with any camera and says they are all great, which doesn’t help at all.

If you are looking to read a review about a particular digital camera then don’t read any review (not specifications) about how good the camera is if it has been given by the company that manufactures the camera. You are not likely to get the whole truth about a camera from the company that makes them are you? I don’t doubt if the situation were reversed I would do exactly the same. Of course you wouldn’t point out the bad things or the glitches of your product in your digital camera reviews, because that way you will never be able to shoot up your sales.

For the best digital camera reviews then I would suggest you try a specialist magazine or try online. The main reason for this is these reviewers like to tell it to you how it is. Reviewers of this caliber are not swayed by the brand name and will sometimes be harder on the well know manufacturers if they get it wrong. Sometimes the review will take the old product and compare it with the new to see if it is indeed an improvement. We may knock the critics at times but if it wasn’t for them we may all be taken for a ride more often. Also unlike many manufacturer reviews, these digital cameras are put through their paces and given many standard tests to pass so you know that the criteria is the same for al of them and not made up as they go along.

Of course if you are familiar with the product then why not give your own review. Of course, you first need to buy your own digital camera, try it out and compare everything that you do with it to the things that it claims to be. Do your research if you intend to go down this route though because it won’t take much to show your ignorance of the product if you don’t now the basics. Try not to be too enthusiastic in your reviews as sometimes they can backfire. After doing so, then you can write your own digital camera review or reviews, depending on how many things you’ve learned from your digital camera. Always let your readers know that what you are telling them is from personal experience and not a re-write of other people’s reviews.

The most honest digital camera reviews are the best reviews you can look for and trust. Don’t sit back and do nothing if you are not happy with your purchase even after all your checking, if it lets you done then contact the manufacturer directly.

Digital Camera Reviews and Consumer Ratings

by John Q. Harris

The good thing about independent digital camera reviews is that are unbiased. Some digital camera reviews however, confuse potential; buyers because they praise every camera they review.

Ok, so you need to get an unbiased but professional digital camera review; then the best place to go is comparison web sites, consumer magazines or photographic journals. Digital camera reviews carried out by consumer magazines really do tell you as it is. These reviewers and critics are never afraid to list down the good as much as the bad points of digital cameras. These digital camera reviews usually point out the difference between the products that a certain manufacturer has released and how it is worse or better than the previous one. The best thing is these aren’t casual users of the product but people who are very well qualified to pass judgment. One more thing, most of the time, these digital camera reviews are actual first hand experience with the product itself and not just some advertising agent asked to come up with flowery words to capture you and your wallet.

If you feel strongly for or against a camera you have bought and used for some time then why not submit your own digital camera review. This can be a good idea and can be done for many different products but you must have considerable experience with it or the review will show this up. When reading reviews, learn to read what certain phrases mean like, weatherproof does not mean waterproof. Try not to be too enthusiastic in your reviews as sometimes they can backfire. After doing so, then you can write your own digital camera review or reviews, depending on how many things you’ve learned from your digital camera. An important point to remember is too let you audience know that your review is from hands on testing.

Always look for digital camera reviews that don’t pull any punches as they are always the most interesting to read. Manufacturers do not like bad publicity so contact them if for any reason your camera does not perform as claimed.

What are the Top Selling Digital Cameras?

by Marco Maseko

With no longer any need for film, digital cameras have started a whole new era for photography. Most of the mechanical parts of a traditional film camera are no longer necessary except for the optical zoom lens. The images are stored in a format that can be read by most modern printers, computers and even mobile phones for example. Unlike film where the image is captured on light sensitive film, these store the images as pixels that convert to computer bytes.

Just like conventional cameras, this type is furnished with a series of lenses that focus the light and creates the image that you want to capture. Using an electronic system, a lower specification digital camera does away with film although it is still capturing the light as with a traditional camera. There are two methods of achieving this; one is more expensive than the other and called a CCD or charge coupled device. Less expensive cameras us a complementary metal oxide semi-conductor or CMS device which does the same work of capturing an image and although some believe it could replace the CCD, this is not likely.

You may have noticed the price of some models has dropped, making them much more affordable to many people; the CMOS image capture device is the reason for this. It would take an experienced digital camera enthusiast to see the difference between an images captured with a CMOS against the superior CCD system. There is no need to feel confused by the range and functions these cameras have if you are armed with a few basic facts which are provided in this article. Look for models with over 6 megapixels and you won’t go far wrong as they will provide decent images; the higher the resolution of the camera the bigger the photos that can be printed.

Always choose a digital camera with an optical zoom as this will enable you take pictures without any distortion; even a camera with a three times optical zoom is worth having. Rechargeable batteries are the best you can use with the NMIH versions able to be charged at anytime, even if they are not fully discharged; this will save money on batteries that are disposable. If it is possible, try to buy a model with many functions as you will be able to create some stunning effects; examples are listed below:

*Video capture *Time lapse (i.e. one shot every 5 minutes for example) *Panoramic images

You will also need something to store the captured images on especially with the high megapixel models available today. Think 1GB as a bare minimum with today’s high resolution models so if you’re a photo junkie you can takes pictures of just about anything.

If you are going to be taking your camera everywhere, choose a handy and portable model. This way, it won’t always feel as heavy and bulky as those you see professional photographers are always dragging on their neck. I trust the brief information that has been supplied here will help you with your choice of camera. With all its technology, versatility and portability, the digital camera is the future of photography.
